All my life I have been surrounded by music. It is the different styles from both my parents which were my main influences. Music, to me anyhow, is a way in which you can express what is un-said.
There have been many songs which have changed the way I look at life, the way I feel and has opened me up to a better understanding of how others themselves would like to spread this world wide language.
Every year, there is a song which stands out and in some sense has helped me or given me joy. For example, this year I discovered “American Pie”, by Don Mclean, which I discovered when I was comparing McLean’s version and Madonna’s. McLean’s though, transported me into a different era where I was able to learn a history through McLean’s classic. At the beginning of my high school years, it was a tough few years for me, dealing with the hassels every student faces- bullies. One day though, I bought a Rolling Stones Magazine which came with a CD which contained Australian artists. On that CD was “Your Love Is Like A Song”, By Dan Sultan. I had never heard such a combination of styles put together creating musical fusion before. With the brass instruments, guitar, and voice, it created (through my ears) happiness.
It is incredible how we can all interperate the meaning of music and the story which each song has. The artist’s story, can relate or transend into a totally different story to the listener, depending on what is happening in that moment in their lives.
